Founded over a century ago, Spencer is one of the most vibrant hockey clubs in the country - for a brief time in the 1970's we had the finest club side in Europe, and since then we have expanded to become one of London's biggest and most successful clubs. We run 12 men's teams, 9 women's teams, mixed hockey, and a thriving junior hockey section. Playing success is only part of the story: our ambition is to provide the most enjoyable hockey we can for everyone from the youngest child to the oldest adult.
Spencer HC is affiliated with England Hockey, the governing body for hockey in England.
Spencer Hockey Club is a part of The Spencer Club, a multi-sports club at the heart of Earlsfield. Fortress Fieldview is home to our state-of-the-art astroturf pitch and clubhouse and bar.
Competitive hockey matches take place on Saturdays. Pre-season training starts in July and competitive matches run from September to early April. Skills and fitness training take place on mid-week evenings, times vary depending on the team played for.
Our men's 1st XI plays in the England Hockey East Conference, with our remaining men's teams occupying positions in the London Hockey, from the Premier Division to Division 6. Our women's 1st XI competes in the England Hockey East Conference, with the W2-W9 teams occupying positions in the London Hockey, from Divison 1 to Division 6. We also enter teams in England Hockey's cup competitions, including the Mixed Cup and Veterans' Competitions.

Spencer Hockey Club is a diverse community gathered around our sport and committed to making our club into the country's best community hockey club.
Spencer is a not for profit organisation, controlled and run by our own members through an Executive Committee. Everyone on our committee is a volunteer, although we employ coaches and some staff to manage the facilities. Each senior member has a voice as to how the club is run and the strategic direction we take. The committee is democratically elected from the membership by the members.
We have an ongoing focus on consolidating our senior section's success, developing our volunteers, and improving fundraising in support of our strategic vision to become the country's best community hockey club. We're excited by the rapid progress our juniors have made and are committed to better integration with the senior section.
Spencer Hockey Club shares facilities and a club ethos with the other sports sections in The Spencer Club family: cricket, lacrosse, tennis and squash.
We have been playing hockey at Spencer for more than 100 years.
We want to encourage you as a member - be it current player, alumni, parent or friend - to get involved in the Club's development. Whether it is helping out with socials, coaching, umpiring, helping us find sponsors or taking on committee appointments, our aim is to have more roles with manageable amounts of work. Whether you can spare an hour a day or an hour a month, we'd love to have you on board.
To find out more about volunteering email the volunteer co-ordinator.
We believe Spencer HC has a unique set of values and a culture we want to protect. This has been embodied in the "Spencer Ethic", which the Committee seeks to adhere to in developing the Club.
When playing the game, as a minimum, we expect our members to:

We run a social hockey session for adults and U16 juniors and upwards on Fridays from 8.15 pm till about 9.15 pm at Spencer Hockey Club, throughout the year, weather and numbers permitting.
Social hockey is open to all genders, all ages, and all levels of skill and/or fitness. So, are you radiantly fit and have an Olympic hockey medal on the wall? Join us! You haven't played in 30 years and/or your knee hurts a little? Join us! You’ve never played before, always watch your kids and want to find out how to hold a stick? Join us!
Social hockey is free for all Junior Hockey volunteers; parents of Junior members; Junior members from U16s and above; and all registered Senior members. On occasion (traditionally at half-term and some other holidays), we allow players younger than U16 to join, but this is by invitation only.
The organiser, Xander Veldhuijzen sends an email round every week, and you decide then and there if that Friday suits you or not (join the mailing list using the link at the top of this page). If yes, press the green button (the button is hard to miss... a pre-filled email pops up when you press it) or reply 'yes' to the email. On the night, bring a dark and a light shirt (so we can make recognisable teams), a stick, shin pads, a mouthguard, and above all a smile!
People from outside Spencer who are looking for social hockey can also get in touch with Xander to join - they can trial a few sessions, and then enrol in a ‘social membership’ which involves payment of a fee as a contribution towards pitch hire, but does not give rise to membership of the Hockey Club.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
