We are saddened to report the passing of former Spencer Hockey player and supporter of the club;
HUGH PRIOR 25//05/1936 - 05/09/2024
Hugh joined Spencer in 1956/57 and represented nearly all the teams in his 30 playing years.
Hugh Prior one of your Vice Presidents and past-player (from the 1950s to the 1980s) has recently died - he was 88.
Hugh had many great seasons at Spencer where he played in every team (there were just 6 Men's teams back then) throughout his nearly 30 years, captaining most of them at some point. In the '70s and early '80s his two sons would spend most Saturdays at Fieldview (when it was three grass pitches) running riot while their dad played. Neil, one of his sons, played a season with him as a 13-year-old in the 5th XI. Hugh was a Spencer man who was always conspicuous by his white gloves.
