GU16 Bolides vs Honor Oak

It’s funny how it’s actually always easier to write a match report after a loss, when you can analyse what went right and what went wrong, and think about what could be done better.. This week no such luck 😉. 

We arrived at Honor Oak with Indian summer sunshine, spent our warming up getting to know new teammates, and then we were off. 

In no time it was clear that our team clicked, 1-0 within three minutes and 3-0 after 10, and things didn’t stop there. Great to see a group of girls  where several had never or only a few times before played together perform so seamlessly as a team. 

The only time the oppo got through they got a short corner, which they did score with a screamer shot. Millie (GK) didn’t see too much of them after that.. 

It is hard to describe each goal individually, as we hardly had time to note down the scorer’s name.. The list of scorers says it all. What I can say is that it was impressive to see how the Bolides kept their shape throughout, their discipline in positioning allowing for fast and accurate passing. Strong tackles were followed by the right mixture of passing and driving forward, keeping the oppo stretched and constantly under pressure. 

With the kind of high press that we instantly created, most of the match took place on the last 1/4th of the pitch, at the oppo end that is. Our defenders were camped on or even beyond the half way line, towards the end they were even found in front of goal. 

Once we reached 9-1 during the 3rd quarter we offered the oppo to switch up the teams, but before the whistle could even be blown it was already 11-1, and when the whistle did go it was 5cm before goal 12 crossed the line (sorry Flo).

The last quarter 4 of our players joined Honor Oak, which levelled things a bit more. Honor Oak scored the first goal - by virtue of our own Penny, the 9 players strong then won the fun quarter by two more goals (Charlotte and Flo) and a great disallowed one from Chloe 😉 

What can I say, a pleasure to watch, great work girls, every single one of you went for every ball and with great success! Well done. 👏
